CMNH Explore Winter 2023

EXPLORE WINTER 2023 | 27 Americans trust in science, 85% want to learn more, and 92% think that the health of the environment directly affects their own health. However, nearly half (44%) report that they are falling behind in scientific understanding. The foundations of public action are there, but relevant information is hard to identify through all the noise. The Museum has a special responsibility to serve as a scientific guide for our community, to cut through the noise and empower people to use scientific information in the decisions they make. Under the leadership of Museum President & CEO Sonia Winner and our dedicated Board of Directors, we are completely transforming our building and our programs to radically improve how we share scientific information and resources. We are investing in a growing scientific team that will advance our understanding of environmental change in Ohio and in the world. We are completely redesigning our exhibits to tell a unified story of Make Your Own Museum Camp Kids will meet with our Museum exhibits experts, get up-close looks at tons of cool Museum displays and artifacts, and even design and create museum displays of their own—keepsakes from a summer that promises to be unforgettable. Circle Sampler Camp: Curated Curiosity! Hosted by the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, this camp will ignite your child’s natural curiosity as we explore the scientific, artistic, and cultural institutions of University Circle. Camp registration opens in early January. Visit CMNH.org or follow us on social media for details. OnlyWe Can Do Camp Like This. Curate Your Child’s Curiosity This Summer! how humanity and our own health are linked to the natural world and reveal the real-world relevance of scientific findings. This may seem an unusual direction for a natural history museum, but I contend it is our duty to become an active advocate for the protection and preservation of our world and our future. Everyone can make choices in their lives that make a difference. As our planet faces an ecological tipping point, we invite everyone, everywhere, to join together to secure a healthy future for ourselves and all the generations to come.
