WPAOG Parent Handbook 2019-20

12 WEST POINT ASSOCIATION OF GRADUATES OVERVIEW On behalf of the West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG), I amhonored to provide you with the 2019–2020 Parent Handbook, which we hope you will find a useful resource to better understand the Academy and your cadet’s West Point experience. On January 1, 2019, WPAOG began our year-long celebration of a monumental milestone: 150 years of the West Point Association of Graduates. The Association was formed in 1869, after the Civil War, as a purely fraternal organization. Today, WPAOG is the Academy’s alumni association and foundation. We provide programs to enhance the cadet years at West Point and a range of services to graduates. WPAOG also raises funds for the Academy. Numerous projects, initiatives, and opportunities would not be possible were it not for the generous donations to Margin of Excellence programs and the West Point Parents Fund. Over the past 20 years, WPAOG directed $250 million Margin of Excellence funds tomore than 50 construction projects. In addition to these improvements, donations to the Margin of Excellence have impacted every cadet at West Point, by supporting academic conferences, capstone projects, semesters abroad, cadet internships and cultural immersion trips, competitive academic teams, graduate scholarships, co-curricular teams and clubs, and Staff Rides. As we look to the next 150 years, WPAOGwill rely on your support to strengthen the bonds between cadets, graduates, and parents. I also encourage you to take advantage of what WPAOG’s team in Herbert Hall offers, including: • West Point magazine, our complimentary quarterly publication. • Monthly Parent Review e-newsletters. • WPAOG-hosted events such as the Plebe-Parent Weekend breakfast and activities during R Day, A Day, home Army Football games, Graduation, andmore. • WPAOG’s Parent Portal on our website, which provides useful resources to keep parents informed: WestPointAOG.org/ParentResources. • Our Parent Giving Officer, Shelisa Baskerville, as a valuable resource for families throughout your time at West Point. As we continue to celebrate the Association’s 150 years of rich history and the significant contributions of its members, we welcome you as part of our story that has yet to be told. Wishing you and your cadet all the best, Todd A. Browne ’85 President and CEO, WPAOG
