40 YEARLING YEAR Cadet Field Training—CFT Military Leadership 200 (ML200) — Introduction toWarfighting Laboratory is a three-to-four-week programof instruction for Third Class cadets (Yearlings). ML200 is offered during the summer term as part of Cadet Field Training (CFT I and CFT II). ML200 expands on the knowledge gained in the classroomby providing hands on application of concepts and lessons fromMS200 in a tactical field environment. Cadets perform select BOLC-A tasks in order to further develop the military and tactical knowledge necessary for future field training and lays the foundation for subsequent Military Science courses. The purpose of ML200 is to develop, train, test, and validate specific BOLC-A tasks. It prepares Third Class cadets to assume duties as noncommissioned officers in the Corps of Cadets; instills the warrior ethos in each cadet; and inspires each cadet to professional excellence through physically- andmentally-demanding training. Cadet Field Training—CFT is a key component of the West Point Leader Development System (WPLDS) in which cadets are responsible for planning, resourcing and execution of training, and the day-to-day operation of Cadet Companies. They are expected to demonstrate proficiency as individual soldiers and as members of teams. CFT teaches cadets how to lead, develop, and care for individual subordinates while serving as team leaders for Fourth-Class cadets. CFT is designed to develop, train, test, and validate specific tasks while preparing Third-Class cadets to assume duties as NCOs in the Corps of Cadets. This course reinforces the importance of character, integrity, courage, and grit, instills the Warrior Ethos, and inspires professional excellence through physically andmentally demanding training. CFT concludes with a marchback to the West Point Garrison. As Third-Class cadets, their role is to exemplify professional standards of behavior and values, assist teammembers, demonstrate commitment to duty through performance, and support the policies of the Chain of Command. They strive for excellence in the military, character, physical, and academic programs while practicing habits of honorable living.
