48 SPECIAL EVENTS WEEKENDS Plebe-Parent Weekend This event is held in the spring of Plebe year. Parents are invited to this special weekend to view West Point through their cadets’ experience. The staff and faculty offer presentations and open houses, tours of buildings, demonstrations, leader team briefings, a parade, and a formal banquet in the Cadet Mess are all planned to offer visitors insight into cadet life. WPAOG hosts a gathering for families to learn about the many services and resources available during their time at West Point and beyond. Founders Day Founders Day celebrations are hosted around the world annually in February–April by West Point Societies to honor the March 16, 1802 founding of the Academy as well as it graduates who have fallen in service to the nation. These events include a reception, opening remarks, posting of the colors, reciting the Cadet Prayer, toasts, dinner, cake-cutting ceremony, speeches, and singing of the alma mater. Parents, cadets, and cadet candidates often attend to help celebrate West Point.
