WestPointAOG.org | 800.BE A.GRAD 31 Separation Process Separation fromWest Point during Cadet Basic Training is a rare occurrence and special procedures are in place to support cadets in this situation. It is not a simple or immediate process inmost situations, and can take two to three weeks. West Point understands that exhaustion and discouragement may be major factors in the desire to leave. Thus, the initial counseling process by the Chain of Command is deliberately extended over the course of a few days to give the new cadet every opportunity to assess their situation with Cadre feedback. Once the new cadet has consulted with their TAC officer in charge of the company during summer training and separation is requested, paperwork for the transition is initiated. New cadets will be allowed to call home to inform their parents about the decision. They will then be transitioned into Summer Garrison Regiment, where they will turn in their equipment and attend regular accountability formation while waiting for their paperwork to be processed. They no longer will be allowed to interact with other new cadets, including duringmeals. Once the paperwork is complete, the new cadet will be free to return home. Transportation will be arranged by West Point. Separation during the academic year follows a similar process. Cadet Hostess The mission of the Cadet Hostess Office is to assist with the social development of the United States Corps of Cadets, with a focus on social etiquette and military protocol. The Cadet Hostess Office provides dining etiquette and protocol classes to many different groups and sizes of groups – from small gatherings to class wide briefings. Each year there are six major banquets and two dining ins. The class formal events provide purposeful, relevant, interactive, and ‘real-life’ training opportunities for the cadets to build upon their social etiquette skills and to demonstrate their social graces. The Cadet Hostess Office emphasis in training focuses on respect and courtesy while preserving tradition and chivalry. The Cadet Hostess Office provides continuity to the Class OICs and class officers who are in charge of running the class banquets. Many of these OICs and cadets are doing it for the first time. For the class banquets, in addition to the etiquette briefings, the Cadet Hostess Office creates and sends out the invitations to the Leader Team and VIPs, tracks the RSVPs, assigns cadet escorts, helps with script management and rehearsals, and assists in executing receiving lines when they are held. These class banquets are mandatory, but the Cadet Hostess Office coordinates and manages voluntary evening events that the cadets can choose to participate in (two examples are the Company
